2nd Saturday & Scout Living

I simply love Sacramento's Second Saturday Art Walk. Last night I went out with a couple friends and we wandered around looking at all the sites.
We came across a new shop on 18th between L and Capital, I was intrigued, so we popped into check out this, "Scout Living." I quickly fell in love with everything in the shop.
Lots of antique and vintage wares all displayed in the most delightful ways.

Here are some iphone shots:
Love the friendly color of this kettle.
Beautiful display.
Dinner time.
So much wanting in my heart for this set of vintage bicycle cups and pitcher.
They also have an entire room filled with vintage designer attire. So many drool worthy articles of clothing and shoes... I'm a little angry I didn't take more pictures.
The owners of Scout Living, Erin and Stefan were featured in Apartment Therapy in January. Here are some more pictures from the Sacramento design blog Mimomito.
A perfect Sacramento summer sitting spot.
Beautiful antique bar.
Our house is coming along slowly. I can't wait for it to look something like all the design blogs I read... soon, someday soon.

I never heard of Second Saturday Art Walk--and I've lived in the Sacramento area for ages. Thanks for the tip. Also your iphone shoots look professional. You encourage me to go out more. Looks fun.

Firefly Portraits: The Crew of Serenity

I've been heard at work making this fun posters featuring the crew of Serenity with memorable quotes.
I've done everyone except Simon, mostly because I haven't found a compelling quote from him yet.
So here's a long graphic of all the posters, perfect for pinning! (hint hint).
Right now you can get $5 off any of these great prints, t-shirts or tote bags in my Society6 shop.
If you like this, don't hesitate to share it amongst your sci-fi loving friends.

I Shot First - A Han Solo Halloween

This past Halloween I wanted to do something inherently sexy. Who is sexier than Han Solo? Answer: no one.

I started with pictures of Han. Specifically from "A New Hope."

Here are the elements: Off white, mandarin-collar shirt Black/navy vestDark pants with red stripesBlack boots (I already owned a pair)Belt and holsterBlaster
I started at Thrift Town, where I found a pair of dark slacks, a shirt, and a black suede jacket. I think I spent around $12. I cut the sleeves off the jacket and used red duct tape for the stripes.
I ordered a toy blaster online, it only comes in white and orange. So I had to spray paint it. I used this tutorial.

If I was going to go further with this costume I'd make a replica of the belt, like this awesome woman did.

Luke really wanted to be Luke this year. His costume was a little more tricky. We bought a karate uniform online, he used a pair of khaki pants he already had and we tried to make the boots out of Ace Bandages, but that didn't w…

Guest Post - Hand-made roll-up panniers by Libby Bowles

It's bike month everyone! Don't forget to check out, www.mayisbikemonth.com and register to win prizes and such. In other exciting news, my amazing friend Libby can do anything! She saw my post about panniers a while back and got it in her head to make a pair of these roll-up brooks brand panniers - and she did. Here's the story:
Hey there Melody,  Remember these (Brooks roll-up panniers)?Well, I was so in love that I decided to make my own. They still need a few finishing touches but I was so excited I just had to show you.
I'm going to Tandy Leather on Monday to get the studs for the little internal straps and maybe get a set of leather handles to sew on top so I can carry them like a satchel while shopping.  I made the pattern based on the size of a paper grocery bag so they should be big enough for two full bags of groceries! I think they look perfect on my Gazelle, don't you? (Yes, they look amazing).
I wanted to make them a little prettier on the inside so …
