Intro to Felting: Blue Bird of Friendliness

Did you know you can walk into the library, provide them with your name and address and check out books on almost any subject in the world, if they don't have the book you're looking for they'll order it! You can keep them for weeks on end and it's totally free. Free!
I recently visited my local library and found a book on felting tiny animals. Then I went to Rumpelstiltskin on R Street and picked out a plethora of gorgeous wool and a couple felting needles.
You can purchase a felting kit with a bunch of needles, instruction and a felting block (form board) for $9.99, I opted to figure things out on my own and find my own form block. I was all too anxious to make some adorable creatures - not unlike this little guy:
I found some rough packing foam and it worked great for my felting board. After about 3 hours, one finger stab and a couple youtube videos I achieved this:

Little more lopsided and confused-looking than I intended - but not all bad. Good for a first try.

Here's a pretty good tutorial video, excuse the cheesy music.  There are plenty how-to videos online, it's also a pretty simple concept. I used a little more trial and error than needed.
