Dress #9 - Confidence

In a few hours I'll be sitting in the Graduate Record Examination. Today, I need confidence, poise and grace.
This Gap dress had been sitting in my closet waiting for mending, so I busted out the needle and thread and donned my confidence dress. My little sister gave me this dress, the shoes are teal pumps from Urban Outfitters I picked up for $10. I thought, "Who wears teal pumps?" turns out, I do! All the time. I love these shoes. They punch up even the most mundane of outfits.

I love lavender.
Now, I feel like I can take on the world.

I love this dress on you! Those sleeves make me green with envy.

Also, I'm sure you'll smash that GRE to bits!

yeah, I do love the sleeves. I actually chose this dress today because it's more neutral than a lot of my dresses. I wanted something that I felt comfortable in, but still looked professional. The length is great, it's light weight... it's a really good fit.

i like this one a lot. i think it's good that it's a little plain because you can really dress it up with some fun accessories. definitely keep it! (or if not...i call dibs.)

I've done everyone except Simon, mostly because I haven't found a compelling quote from him yet.
So here's a long graphic of all the posters, perfect for pinning! (hint hint).
Right now you can get $5 off any of these great prints, t-shirts or tote bags in my Society6 shop.
If you like this, don't hesitate to share it amongst your sci-fi loving friends.

I Shot First - A Han Solo Halloween

This past Halloween I wanted to do something inherently sexy. Who is sexier than Han Solo? Answer: no one.

I started with pictures of Han. Specifically from "A New Hope."

Here are the elements: Off white, mandarin-collar shirt Black/navy vestDark pants with red stripesBlack boots (I already owned a pair)Belt and holsterBlaster
I started at Thrift Town, where I found a pair of dark slacks, a shirt, and a black suede jacket. I think I spent around $12. I cut the sleeves off the jacket and used red duct tape for the stripes.
I ordered a toy blaster online, it only comes in white and orange. So I had to spray paint it. I used this tutorial.

If I was going to go further with this costume I'd make a replica of the belt, like this awesome woman did.

Luke really wanted to be Luke this year. His costume was a little more tricky. We bought a karate uniform online, he used a pair of khaki pants he already had and we tried to make the boots out of Ace Bandages, but that didn't w…

Guest Post - Hand-made roll-up panniers by Libby Bowles

It's bike month everyone! Don't forget to check out, www.mayisbikemonth.com and register to win prizes and such. In other exciting news, my amazing friend Libby can do anything! She saw my post about panniers a while back and got it in her head to make a pair of these roll-up brooks brand panniers - and she did. Here's the story:
Hey there Melody,  Remember these (Brooks roll-up panniers)?Well, I was so in love that I decided to make my own. They still need a few finishing touches but I was so excited I just had to show you.
I'm going to Tandy Leather on Monday to get the studs for the little internal straps and maybe get a set of leather handles to sew on top so I can carry them like a satchel while shopping.  I made the pattern based on the size of a paper grocery bag so they should be big enough for two full bags of groceries! I think they look perfect on my Gazelle, don't you? (Yes, they look amazing).
I wanted to make them a little prettier on the inside so …
