Dress #7 - Preppy & pretty

Today's dress was found at Nordstrom's Rack on sale. I think I spent $15 on it. I bought the shoes at the same time and paid about the same price. The dress is Max Studio and the shoes are BC.
This is probably my least sustainable outfit so far. The tights and cardigan are Forever 21, sunglasses are Lucky brand. I'm wearing a slip from that bag I found on the curb and a cardigan clasp from Crimson and Clover.

The purse was a garage sale find, $2

My sincerest apologies: I was messing with my blog formatting and I accidentally cleared out all the previous votes for the dresses. So please go ahead and cast your votes again.

Update: Special request for shoes close-up

I want a close-up of the shoes. They look adorable.

mmmm those shoes are DELIGHTFUL. i want.
I love the accessories! shoes and blue tights and cardi- most of all that gold leaf clasp is beautiful! The dress I'm not crazy about, it seems a little flimsy and clingy. You have a great bod so you still look good in it- I think think that if we're trying to narrow down your dress collection this one could be passed on :)

yes, the accessories make this outfit, I agree with Emily. I really didn't enjoy wearing the dress today. The neckline kept slipping and revealing too much cleavage. It's just not that great. I'm posting final scores on this weeks dresses tonight! We'll see which on goes and which one stays!

I've done everyone except Simon, mostly because I haven't found a compelling quote from him yet.
So here's a long graphic of all the posters, perfect for pinning! (hint hint).
Right now you can get $5 off any of these great prints, t-shirts or tote bags in my Society6 shop.
If you like this, don't hesitate to share it amongst your sci-fi loving friends.

I Shot First - A Han Solo Halloween

This past Halloween I wanted to do something inherently sexy. Who is sexier than Han Solo? Answer: no one.

I started with pictures of Han. Specifically from "A New Hope."

Here are the elements: Off white, mandarin-collar shirt Black/navy vestDark pants with red stripesBlack boots (I already owned a pair)Belt and holsterBlaster
I started at Thrift Town, where I found a pair of dark slacks, a shirt, and a black suede jacket. I think I spent around $12. I cut the sleeves off the jacket and used red duct tape for the stripes.
I ordered a toy blaster online, it only comes in white and orange. So I had to spray paint it. I used this tutorial.

If I was going to go further with this costume I'd make a replica of the belt, like this awesome woman did.

Luke really wanted to be Luke this year. His costume was a little more tricky. We bought a karate uniform online, he used a pair of khaki pants he already had and we tried to make the boots out of Ace Bandages, but that didn't w…

Guest Post - Hand-made roll-up panniers by Libby Bowles

It's bike month everyone! Don't forget to check out, www.mayisbikemonth.com and register to win prizes and such. In other exciting news, my amazing friend Libby can do anything! She saw my post about panniers a while back and got it in her head to make a pair of these roll-up brooks brand panniers - and she did. Here's the story:
Hey there Melody,  Remember these (Brooks roll-up panniers)?Well, I was so in love that I decided to make my own. They still need a few finishing touches but I was so excited I just had to show you.
I'm going to Tandy Leather on Monday to get the studs for the little internal straps and maybe get a set of leather handles to sew on top so I can carry them like a satchel while shopping.  I made the pattern based on the size of a paper grocery bag so they should be big enough for two full bags of groceries! I think they look perfect on my Gazelle, don't you? (Yes, they look amazing).
I wanted to make them a little prettier on the inside so …
