Dandelions are some of my favorite things. Years ago I fell in love with a song, Dandelions by the ska group Five Iron Frenzy, ever since the flowers maintain an amazing appeal.

The song goes:
In a field of yellow flowers,
underneath the sun,
bluest eyes that spark with lightning,
boy with shoes undone.
He is young, so full of hope,
reveling in tiny dreams,
filling up, his arms with flowers,
right for giving any queen.

Running to her beaming bright,

while cradling his prize.
A flickering of yellow light,
within his mother's eyes.
She holds them to her heart,
keeping them where they'll be safe,
clasped within her very marrow,
dandelions in a vase.

She sees love, where anyone else would see weeds.

all hope is found.
Here is everything he needs.

Fathomless your endless mercy,

weight I could not lift.
Where do I fit in this puzzle,
what good are these gifts?
Not a martyr, or a saint,
scarcely can I struggle through.
All that I have ever wanted,
was to give my best to you.

Lord, search my heart,

create in me something clean.
you see flowers in these weeds.

Gently lifting hands to heaven,

softened by the sweetest hush,
a Father sings over his children,
loving them so very much.
More than words could warrant,
deeper than the darkest blue,
more than sacrifice could merit,
Lord, I give my heart to you.

Time and time again I come back to this song, this weekend was one of those times. I often take refuge in the fact that in my weakness, He is strong. Not just strong, but he sees love and beauty, where others might see failure.
It's been a long weekend which has dribbled over into the week - leaving me feeling weak, vulnerable, and kind of like a weed. Thank God, literally, I know I'm worth more than this world would have me believe. I'm a versatile, beautiful individual.
Did you know you can eat dandelions? They're an excellent source of vitamins. You can make wishes with the little poof balls, they grow almost anywhere. There's so much beauty in this common weed.
On Monday I turned 25 and for this my dear friends and family showered me with presents.
Some of those presents featured dandelions!

Dandelion skirt from Erin
Dandelion jewelery holder from Ashley

The jewelery holder is from Humboldt designer, Chicken Boots, here's her etsy shop. Erin got the skirt at a boutique in Colorado almost six months ago and saved it for my birthday!
My husband is also amazing, he gave my some beautiful earrings from my favorite Humboldt jewelery designer, Rochelle Fugate, with starlings. Another thing I love.
In addition to being in aw of how my creator loves me, I'm also floored by my friends and family. I am a truly blessed individual.

I've been heard at work making this fun posters featuring the crew of Serenity with memorable quotes.
I've done everyone except Simon, mostly because I haven't found a compelling quote from him yet.
So here's a long graphic of all the posters, perfect for pinning! (hint hint).
Right now you can get $5 off any of these great prints, t-shirts or tote bags in my Society6 shop.
If you like this, don't hesitate to share it amongst your sci-fi loving friends.

I Shot First - A Han Solo Halloween

This past Halloween I wanted to do something inherently sexy. Who is sexier than Han Solo? Answer: no one.

I started with pictures of Han. Specifically from "A New Hope."

Here are the elements: Off white, mandarin-collar shirt Black/navy vestDark pants with red stripesBlack boots (I already owned a pair)Belt and holsterBlaster
I started at Thrift Town, where I found a pair of dark slacks, a shirt, and a black suede jacket. I think I spent around $12. I cut the sleeves off the jacket and used red duct tape for the stripes.
I ordered a toy blaster online, it only comes in white and orange. So I had to spray paint it. I used this tutorial.

If I was going to go further with this costume I'd make a replica of the belt, like this awesome woman did.

Luke really wanted to be Luke this year. His costume was a little more tricky. We bought a karate uniform online, he used a pair of khaki pants he already had and we tried to make the boots out of Ace Bandages, but that didn't w…

Guest Post - Hand-made roll-up panniers by Libby Bowles

It's bike month everyone! Don't forget to check out, and register to win prizes and such. In other exciting news, my amazing friend Libby can do anything! She saw my post about panniers a while back and got it in her head to make a pair of these roll-up brooks brand panniers - and she did. Here's the story:
Hey there Melody,  Remember these (Brooks roll-up panniers)?Well, I was so in love that I decided to make my own. They still need a few finishing touches but I was so excited I just had to show you.
I'm going to Tandy Leather on Monday to get the studs for the little internal straps and maybe get a set of leather handles to sew on top so I can carry them like a satchel while shopping.  I made the pattern based on the size of a paper grocery bag so they should be big enough for two full bags of groceries! I think they look perfect on my Gazelle, don't you? (Yes, they look amazing).
I wanted to make them a little prettier on the inside so …
