Tonight the MC Chris “is dead tour,” with special guests Totally Michael, Sirah and DJ Kechup, happens at 10 p.m. at the Humboldt Brewery in Arcata.

While in college, MC Chris began studying and performing at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in New York City. One night after ripping tickets at the UCBT, MC Chris was discovered by David Willis, creator of “Aqua Teen Hunger Force,” a cartoon for adults on the Cartoon Network. MC Chris didn’t want to leave New York City for Atlanta and instead became animator on Willis’ friend Adam’s show, “Sealab 2021,” another show on the Cartoon Network. During his stint as an animator, MC Chris was writing rhymes, recording music and self-releasing albums. He was also a character voice on “Sealab 2021” and has cameos in “Aqua Teen Hunger Force” and other Adult Swim shows on the Cartoon Network.

MC Chris is known for rapping about stereotypical white-guy things. One of his most crowd-pleasing songs is “Fett’s Vette,” an homage to the biggest Star Wars hero with the least lines. He also sings about his high voice and how people have told him he sounds like a 10-year-old.

His last show in Humboldt County drew faithful MC Chris fans and some confused Pinback fans (he opened for them on their tour last spring).

Tickets are $18 for general admission and $16 for Humboldt State University students. Tickets are available at the university ticket office at HSU and The Works in Eureka and Arcata. This show is for those 21 and older only.

So here's a long graphic of all the posters, perfect for pinning! (hint hint).
Right now you can get $5 off any of these great prints, t-shirts or tote bags in my Society6 shop.
If you like this, don't hesitate to share it amongst your sci-fi loving friends.

I Shot First - A Han Solo Halloween

This past Halloween I wanted to do something inherently sexy. Who is sexier than Han Solo? Answer: no one.

I started with pictures of Han. Specifically from "A New Hope."

Here are the elements: Off white, mandarin-collar shirt Black/navy vestDark pants with red stripesBlack boots (I already owned a pair)Belt and holsterBlaster
I started at Thrift Town, where I found a pair of dark slacks, a shirt, and a black suede jacket. I think I spent around $12. I cut the sleeves off the jacket and used red duct tape for the stripes.
I ordered a toy blaster online, it only comes in white and orange. So I had to spray paint it. I used this tutorial.

If I was going to go further with this costume I'd make a replica of the belt, like this awesome woman did.

Luke really wanted to be Luke this year. His costume was a little more tricky. We bought a karate uniform online, he used a pair of khaki pants he already had and we tried to make the boots out of Ace Bandages, but that didn't w…

Guest Post - Hand-made roll-up panniers by Libby Bowles

It's bike month everyone! Don't forget to check out, www.mayisbikemonth.com and register to win prizes and such. In other exciting news, my amazing friend Libby can do anything! She saw my post about panniers a while back and got it in her head to make a pair of these roll-up brooks brand panniers - and she did. Here's the story:
Hey there Melody,  Remember these (Brooks roll-up panniers)?Well, I was so in love that I decided to make my own. They still need a few finishing touches but I was so excited I just had to show you.
I'm going to Tandy Leather on Monday to get the studs for the little internal straps and maybe get a set of leather handles to sew on top so I can carry them like a satchel while shopping.  I made the pattern based on the size of a paper grocery bag so they should be big enough for two full bags of groceries! I think they look perfect on my Gazelle, don't you? (Yes, they look amazing).
I wanted to make them a little prettier on the inside so …
