To clear up some personal confusion:

Willie Nelson – Born in 1933 and is legendary country singer, just played in Sothern Humboldt. He gained fame during the “outlaw country” movement, and has remained iconic.
Willy Mason – Born in 1984, a singer-songwriter of the folk variety, opened for Bright Eyes in October of 2005 at Humboldt State.

Mason Williams – Born in 1938, a guitarist and composer, most known for his guitar instrumental composition "Classical Gas," and Emmy award winning comedy writer, has not played in Humboldt County – to my knowledge.

Mason Jennings – Born in 1975, a pop-folk singer/songwriter. Is playing at Humboldt State November 11th. Get your tickets soon because he's an excellent musician and performer, Tickets are $20 for HSU students and $25 for regular folks, and it's in the Van Duzer so seating matters.

Waylon Jennings – Born in 1937 and died in 2002, country singer and musician, played with Buddy Holly, but didn’t die in the plane crash that killed Buddy Holly, Richie Valance, and the Big Bopper because he gave up his seat to the Big Bopper. He was good friends with Willie Nelson.

As far as I know none of these men are related, they all just have similar names and play guitar, and write songs and sing and hang out in the folk-country-rock genres.

This cracks me up, and I still can't tell one of them from the other in any way. It'd like trying to tell the difference between the Stills, the Kills, the Thrills, and the Killers. I'm pretty sure they're all the same band.

I think that All American Chemical Fallout at the Disco is a band.

Firefly Portraits: The Crew of Serenity

I've been heard at work making this fun posters featuring the crew of Serenity with memorable quotes.
I've done everyone except Simon, mostly because I haven't found a compelling quote from him yet.
So here's a long graphic of all the posters, perfect for pinning! (hint hint).
Right now you can get $5 off any of these great prints, t-shirts or tote bags in my Society6 shop.
If you like this, don't hesitate to share it amongst your sci-fi loving friends.

I Shot First - A Han Solo Halloween

This past Halloween I wanted to do something inherently sexy. Who is sexier than Han Solo? Answer: no one.

I started with pictures of Han. Specifically from "A New Hope."

Here are the elements: Off white, mandarin-collar shirt Black/navy vestDark pants with red stripesBlack boots (I already owned a pair)Belt and holsterBlaster
I started at Thrift Town, where I found a pair of dark slacks, a shirt, and a black suede jacket. I think I spent around $12. I cut the sleeves off the jacket and used red duct tape for the stripes.
I ordered a toy blaster online, it only comes in white and orange. So I had to spray paint it. I used this tutorial.

If I was going to go further with this costume I'd make a replica of the belt, like this awesome woman did.

Luke really wanted to be Luke this year. His costume was a little more tricky. We bought a karate uniform online, he used a pair of khaki pants he already had and we tried to make the boots out of Ace Bandages, but that didn't w…

Guest Post - Hand-made roll-up panniers by Libby Bowles

It's bike month everyone! Don't forget to check out, and register to win prizes and such. In other exciting news, my amazing friend Libby can do anything! She saw my post about panniers a while back and got it in her head to make a pair of these roll-up brooks brand panniers - and she did. Here's the story:
Hey there Melody,  Remember these (Brooks roll-up panniers)?Well, I was so in love that I decided to make my own. They still need a few finishing touches but I was so excited I just had to show you.
I'm going to Tandy Leather on Monday to get the studs for the little internal straps and maybe get a set of leather handles to sew on top so I can carry them like a satchel while shopping.  I made the pattern based on the size of a paper grocery bag so they should be big enough for two full bags of groceries! I think they look perfect on my Gazelle, don't you? (Yes, they look amazing).
I wanted to make them a little prettier on the inside so …
