A little something about Santogold!

I just found Santogold's new video on MTV

If you don't know who this electronic pop Siren is, you might want to get educated.

Santi White (aka Santogold) was a producer and involved in the music industry before she started performing. Now you can't turn on MTV without hearing Creator, L.E.S. Artistes, or anything off her self titled album released this year. Hey style is similar to M.I.A. and they chill together in Brooklyn NY, pictured.

I had the pleasure to see her live at BFD, not knowing anything about her. I walked out the tent my mind totally blown! My friend's brother Niel, came through the crowd practically beaming, and I said, "Niel I need this alb--" and he cut me off with, "There's a burned copy for you in your car."

Since then I've listened to that album many times and each song brings something different. It cohesive and yet varied in genre. She's brilliant.

She started in a ska band, maybe that's why I love her so much.

Oh and a week ago on the KSLG, Dr. Syd said she sounded too much like Tegan and Sara, she's riding on their coat tails. Well, Syd, if you read this blog, please listen to the whole album or at least watch the video above. She has so much versatility, and has an entirely different performance style, I didn't even hear the similarity until hearing L.E.S. on the radio.

Firefly Portraits: The Crew of Serenity

I've been heard at work making this fun posters featuring the crew of Serenity with memorable quotes.
I've done everyone except Simon, mostly because I haven't found a compelling quote from him yet.
So here's a long graphic of all the posters, perfect for pinning! (hint hint).
Right now you can get $5 off any of these great prints, t-shirts or tote bags in my Society6 shop.
If you like this, don't hesitate to share it amongst your sci-fi loving friends.

I Shot First - A Han Solo Halloween

This past Halloween I wanted to do something inherently sexy. Who is sexier than Han Solo? Answer: no one.

I started with pictures of Han. Specifically from "A New Hope."

Here are the elements: Off white, mandarin-collar shirt Black/navy vestDark pants with red stripesBlack boots (I already owned a pair)Belt and holsterBlaster
I started at Thrift Town, where I found a pair of dark slacks, a shirt, and a black suede jacket. I think I spent around $12. I cut the sleeves off the jacket and used red duct tape for the stripes.
I ordered a toy blaster online, it only comes in white and orange. So I had to spray paint it. I used this tutorial.

If I was going to go further with this costume I'd make a replica of the belt, like this awesome woman did.

Luke really wanted to be Luke this year. His costume was a little more tricky. We bought a karate uniform online, he used a pair of khaki pants he already had and we tried to make the boots out of Ace Bandages, but that didn't w…

Guest Post - Hand-made roll-up panniers by Libby Bowles

It's bike month everyone! Don't forget to check out, and register to win prizes and such. In other exciting news, my amazing friend Libby can do anything! She saw my post about panniers a while back and got it in her head to make a pair of these roll-up brooks brand panniers - and she did. Here's the story:
Hey there Melody,  Remember these (Brooks roll-up panniers)?Well, I was so in love that I decided to make my own. They still need a few finishing touches but I was so excited I just had to show you.
I'm going to Tandy Leather on Monday to get the studs for the little internal straps and maybe get a set of leather handles to sew on top so I can carry them like a satchel while shopping.  I made the pattern based on the size of a paper grocery bag so they should be big enough for two full bags of groceries! I think they look perfect on my Gazelle, don't you? (Yes, they look amazing).
I wanted to make them a little prettier on the inside so …
